“The Gate of Immortality”
Concept
The mission of the Gate of Immortality Holocaust Memorial is to combine universal humanitarian values, historical facts, national Jewish symbols and traditions, the horrors of the the tragedy of European Jewry with an expression of sympathy and solidarity of the people of the a world with the victims of the Holocaust using the methods of fine art, architecture, modern visual and light laser technologies.
The Memorial includes several elements that are combined into a single architectural composition ";Gate of Immortality";.
1. The Gate is composed from two replicas of walls of the Old City of Jerusalem that are made of concrete monolith or masonry imitating Jerusalem stone. To create an open space, the walls are set at an angle to each other. On the outer side of the Walls there are relief images of the Jerusalem Gates, and on the inner walls - the names of the places of mass extermination of Jews in the Holocaust.
2. The walls are installed on a Pedestal-stage, made in the form of the Star of David - a symbol of the Jewish people.
3. The Pedestrian Path leads to the pedestal, which is made in the form of a closed grating or a transparent plate of an illuminated trench, where buried copies of fragments of the notorious gates and barriers of the main concentration camps in Europe - Auschwitz and Buchenwald, as well as pieces of rails, barbed wire and other attributes of the ghetto and concentration camps.
In addition to the indicated symbolic meanings, the walls of the Gates of Immortality, are a symbol of protection and tranquility both for the souls of the dead, and for the living people and future generations, not only of the Jewish people, but also of all people of the world, whose religious denominations are represented inside the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem, from the horrors of any genocide.
The choice of architectural, content and design solutions should be based on our general concept, considering the wishes of the city authorities and public organizations, the natural and topographic conditions of the site, as well as the technical regulations and building rules of local administration.
