Voices of the Diaspora: A Conversation on Identity

Community leaders reflect on belonging, heritage, and the responsibility of building bridges between cultures.

What does it mean to belong to more than one place? In this conversation, community leaders reflect on identity, heritage, and the responsibility of building bridges between cultures.

Belonging in more than one place

Passing it on

The leaders we spoke with returned again and again to the question of the next generation. Preserving identity, they agreed, depends on:

  • Cultural spaces where younger generations can explore their roots.
  • Openness that lets heritage grow rather than freeze in place.

Identity is not something we inherit and keep unchanged — it is something we carry forward, and gently reshape, with every generation.

Bridges, not walls

Across the conversation, one theme stood out: a confident sense of identity does not divide communities.
